If you’re an admitted powder hound and have a hankering for deep snow and challenging terrain, then a Kicking Horse ski vacation should be your next winter getaway. Not only is Kicking Horse considered one of North America’s best places to score some pow, but it’s also home to one of the highest vertical drops on the continent—a staggering 4,133 feet. Located just outside of Golden, British Columbia, Kicking Horse Resort sees a yearly average of 23 feet of some of the lightest, driest and deepest powder on the planet. With 27 trails and 106 runs that span across 2,750 acres of lift-served, diverse terrain—including 70 thrilling chutes—a Kicking Horse ski vacation will certainly allow you to get your "kicks" in, no pun intended.

Whether you’re clicking into a pair of skis for the first time or you’re just looking to brush up your skills, The Learning Center focuses on adult learning and includes private skiing and riding lessons as well as private family clinics, three- and five-day ski and ride programs, telemark lessons, and programs for beginners. If this isn't your first rodeo, check out the Big Mountain Center. This elite mountain education facility offers avalanche training, snow safety instruction and guiding as well as experiential education for the untracked part of the mountain.

Off the slopes, Kicking Horse has eight on-mountain eateries specializing in everything from French to Japanese food. Nearby Golden also offers an assortment of additional dining options. If you don’t happen to ski or ride, or are just looking to mix it up a bit, spend your day exploring via snowshoe, snowmobile or a pair of cross-country skis, take the kids to the tubing park or ice skating rink, or move the fun inside for some indoor rock climbing. Just over an hour and a half from Banff, and two and a half hours from Calgary, Kicking Horse is easy to get to as well.

Kicking Horse Ski Resort

Like its namesake Kicking Horse is renowned for delivering quite the punch to even the most seasoned skiers and snowboarders, and with 60 percent of the terrain designated as black and double black, you can understand why. Some would venture to say that some of the single blacks would be double blacks elsewhere. Despite its repute, Kicking Horse has plenty of terrain for beginners, plus the Learning Center provides the perfect setting for learning to ski. And if you learn to ski at Kicking Horse, you’ll surely be a skier for life.
