Rocky Mountain Tours Powder Deals

February 23, 2011

As you may have heard, a few storms rolled through the mountains over the weekend delivering mouth-watering snow totals. For example, Squaw Valley received seven feet in 72 hours, Grand Targhee received 32” in 24 hours and Snowbird received 24 inches in 24 hours. And I’m not talkin’ heavy, ruin-your-day snow. I’m talking light, fluffy powder where using a snorkel while floating through it would not be uncommon. These huge snow totals can only mean one thing: spring is right around the corner. In addition to unbeatable snow conditions, March and April offer warm, sunny days filled with events, food tastings and spring festivals with live music, big air competitions and more. Here are just a few examples of what you can expect in Ski Country this year:

  • FestEVOL featuring O.A. R. – Crested Butte, Colorado – March 26: In its inaugural year, FestEVOL is bringing O.A.R. and Pete Kilpatrick Band to Crested Butte for a unique lifestyle experience combining mountain sports, live music, innovative natural brands and a sustainably focused “eco village” to help keep the event green.

  • Telus World Ski & Snowboard Festival – Whistler, British Columbia – April 15 – 24: This 10-day festival is one of the biggest and best end-of-season celebrations in the mountains. Activities range from ski and snowboard competitions, fashion shows, photo competitions and a Filmmaker showdown to Canada’s largest free Outdoor Concert Series. As they say in Whistler, “Party in April, sleep in May.”

  • Spring Back to Vail – Vail, Colorado – April 11 – 17: Considered the biggest end of season bash in the Rocky Mountains, Spring Back to Vail is a weeklong celebration of another great season with free concerts (this year’s acts include Train, Stephen Marley, Grace Potter and the Nocturnals, Sierra Leone Refugee Allstars and more), an all-mountain film competition and the World Pond Skimming Championships.

  • Spring Massive – Breckenridge, Colorado – April 1 – 18: The 10th annual Spring Massive delivers concerts, competitions, nightlife, exhibitions, jams, film shoots, kids’ activities and the legendary spring conditions for which Breckenridge is famous.

There is something for everyone in the mountains during the spring months, from activities geared towards kids to slopeside live music suitable for all ages. Come out and enjoy the best snow we’ve seen in years!
