Rocky Mountain Tours Powder Deals

December 8, 2010

Whether you're a kid at heart, you have kids of your own or both, you have probably eyed a terrain park and wondered what it would be like to go big on a kicker or slide on a rail. At Rocky Mountain Tours, we'd like to share with you some of the best places you (or your kids) can get their jib on.

Camp Woodward, a Pennsylvania-based summer camp for kids interested in Action Sports, recently opened a complex in Colorado's Rocky Mountains at Copper Mountain. Woodward at Copper is a year-round snowboard and ski training camp dedicated to park and pipe progression. Their indoor facility, known as “The Barn,” offers 19,400 square feet of terrain park and pipe progression, which is split into three zones:

  1. Gym cross training area – Here you'll find six Olympic grade trampolines, a trampoline harness system, 54' x 22' spring floor and foam pits.
  2. Snow Zone – Practice your skiing and riding on 6,200 square feet of SnowFlex (carpet) before hitting a 35-foot big air jump with foam pit landing, practicing your cliff-dropping skills, also into a foam pit, or taking a jib run with a box, rail and quarter pipe.
  3. Skate/BMX/Inline Zone – To get your off-the-snow adrenaline fix, Woodward offers a 6' to 8' Skatalite Bowl, 4' mini ramp, 2' micro mini ramp, 1,600-square-foot mini street course and 5' Skatelite drop to foam.

Woodward at Copper is part of the Copper Mountain Ski School, so you or the kids can learn how to do some of the sickest tricks with the safety of a foam pit. Then, after lots of practice, jump on a Copper Mountain chairlift and try it out on one of their two terrain parks or on their 22' superpipe.

Not interested in the safety of a foam pit or trampoline? No problem. Here are a few other resorts with notable terrain parks and terrain park features:

  • Aspen/Snowmass – Host of the X Games, Buttermilk is the home of two terrain parks. The Buttermilk Park has over 100 features including a 22-foot superpipe and an X Games slopestyle course. Beginners will enjoy the Panda Pipe and Ski & Snowboard School's Park (S3 Park).

  • Jackson Hole – New for the 2010/2011 season, Jackson Hole now offers Burton Stash parks, which take advantage of the natural terrain, local wood and all the creative elements this unbelievable mountain has to offer.

  • Breckenridge – With five terrain parks and two half-pipes to choose from, Breckenridge appeals to up and coming freestylers and seasoned experts alike. Known for having the best pipes and parks in the world and continually ranked in the top three by industry leaders, Breckenridge continues to raise the bar in the terrain park arena.

  • Northstar at Tahoe – This North Tahoe resort has built eight different terrain parks, including a 420-foot superpipe. The most recent addition to the mountain is the DC Park (after DC Shoes) which includes a DC stair set, a lift tower pole jam, down-flat-down stair set, DC Gondola bonk and other large freestyle features.

Due to all this terrain park talk, I've neglected to mention that a large number of resorts in the west have posted RECORD NOVEMBER SNOWFALL TOTALS. In most places, the snow has been measured in feet, not inches and there's more on the way! At Rocky Mountain Tours, we still have all sorts of deals for you to take advantage of. But when you're really ready to get down to business and make things easy on yourself, pick up the phone and give us a call at 888-525-7547.
